Google and Symantec top Infonetics Research's messaging security SaaS scorecard

CAMPBELL, CA, May 10, 2011 (MARKETWIRE via COMTEX) -- Market research firm Infonetics Research today released excerpts from its new Worldwide Messaging Security SaaS Provider Scorecard, which analyzes and ranks the top messaging security SaaS providers.

"For the most part, the six providers covered in our messaging security SaaS scorecard -- Google, Microsoft, Symantec, McAfee, Websense, and AppRiver -- are financially stable, target a broad set of customers (from very small businesses to large enterprises), and have capable and competitive service offerings. The three areas that really separate the leaders from the rest are installed base of subscribers/seats, brand presence, and security profile," notes Jeff Wilson, principal analyst for security at Infonetics Research.

MESSAGING SECURITY SAAS SCORECARD HIGHLIGHTS -- Google earns top marks for installed base of subscribers, financial stability, market strategy, and service capabilities, but they do have some weaknesses -- Symantec's strong security brand and profile help place them nearly side-by-side with Google on Infonetics' leadership scale -- Other key vendors in this market, like Barracuda, Cisco, and Trend Micro, don't have the installed base of subscribers that the leaders listed in Infonetics' scorecard have, but they do have the brand, technology, product, market, and financial background to make a significant impact on the messaging security SaaS market SCORECARD SYNOPSIS Providers ranked in Infonetics' Messaging Security SaaS Provider Scorecard include AppRiver, Google, McAfee, Microsoft, Symantec, and Websense. The scorecard identifies providers' strengths and weaknesses, and ranks the top messaging security SaaS providers based on criteria critical to determining market leadership, including security brand presence, security profile, financial stability, market strategy, and service capabilities. A Web Security Leadership Scorecard will be published by Infonetics in June. Both scorecards are part of Infonetics' Managed Security Services and SaaS market size and forecast service.
