Fusion-io to Power Mission-Critical Data Access and Analysis at CWID

DETROIT --(Business Wire)--

Department of Defense Intelligence Information Systems (DoDIIS) Worldwide Conference - Booth #654 - Fusion-io, pioneer of a next-generation storage memory platform for shared data decentralization, announced today that it will participate in the Coalition Warrior Interoperability Demonstration (CWID), an annual event that engages cutting-edge information technology focusing on operational shortfalls identified by combatant commanders and government agencies.

During CWID 2011 held June 13-16 at the Space and Naval Warfare Systems Center Pacific (SSC Pacific), in San Diego, Fusion-io (News - Alert) will demonstrate how its storage memory technology can reduce energy consumption and enhance speed-to-intelligence for warfighters, first-responders, analysts and datacenter operators by providing native access to critical data in the server where it can be processed much more quickly.

Directed by the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, CWID selects and approves technologies for its annual event because they address a new information sharing capability or potentially improve an existing capability. The demonstrations focus on technology discovery, risk reduction and coalition interoperability.

"CWID scenarios provide a unique way to evaluate technologies that can advance key capabilities of the Navy," said Jay Iannacito, Project Manager and Navy Site Lead for CWID. "Some of the technologies we're testing this year support SSC Pacific executive director's Energy Reduction Strategy and offer a potential to significantly reduce power consumption in both afloat and shore applications."

When deployed for warfighters and first responders, data decetralization technologies from Fusion-io can reduce the weight, power and cooling needs of deployable systems by offering storage devices that have the performance of a large Storage Area Network (SAN), yet consume no more space than a network card. For analysts and datacenter operators in the field or at a central location, Fusion-io technology reduces complexity by enabling performance-intensive applications or databases to run within a much smaller footprint.

"More than ever, rapid interpretation of multiple points of data in real-world, wartime environments can mean the difference between life or death for soldiers and civilians," said Fred Vasofsky, Fusion-io Director of Federal Systems. "Fusion-io understands how critically important it is for warfighters and analysts to be able to quickly and correctly interpret field data. Through our participation in CWID, our military leaders will be able to assess how our technology can make a significant contribution to the defense and disaster response-related activities of our nation and allies."

The Fusion-io storage memory platform offers a number of benefits that can help ensure success in quickly analyzing data to make informed decisions in the field:

  • Real-time application and database performance for 3-10x more data, greatly improving information capabilities and mission success rates.
  • Dramatically improved system reliability that can help save lives. Fusion-io reduces hundreds of failure points in data centers and replaces volatile and failure-prone memory technologies with a non-volatile NAND flash memory tier.
  • Reduction in infrastructure needs by a factor of 3:1 - 10:1 makes it easy for even large systems to meet budgetary requirements and power initiatives.
  • Ideal for deployable systems that require shock-resistance, no moving parts, low power, and low cooling needs.

About Fusion-io

Fusion-io has pioneered a next-generation storage memory platform for shared data decentralization that significantly improves the processing capabilities within a datacenter by relocating process-critical, or "active," data from centralized storage to the server where it is being processed, a methodology referred to as data decentralization. Fusion's integrated hardware and software solutions leverage non-volatile memory to significantly increase datacenter efficiency and offers enterprise grade performance, reliability, availability and manageability. Fusion's data decentralization platform can transform legacy architectures into next-generation datacenters and allows enterprises to consolidate or significantly reduce complex and expensive high-performance storage, high-performance networking and memory-rich servers. Fusion's platform enables enterprises to increase the utilization, performance and efficiency of their datacenter resources and extract greater value from their information assets.
