ARRIS announces successful deployment of IPv6

Apr 15, 2011 (M2 EQUITYBITES via COMTEX) -- Communications technology company ARRIS (Nasdaq:ARRS) on Thursday announced the successful deployment of its DOCSIS 3.0 C4 CMTS and Touchstone WBM760 Wideband cable modems for an IPv6 services trial by Comcast in the MSO's Denver area systems.

This trial's successful completion, using generally available software, is reportedly a key milestone in the IPv6-related research and development efforts conducted by ARRIS.

The company said that this trial featured a live application of native dual stack (IPv4 and IPv6 simultaneously) CPE support. IPv6 solutions are now available for the global cable market.

IPv4 has been the publicly used Internet Protocol since 1981 and is currently the foundation for most Internet communications. The exponential growth of the Internet and the traffic it enables has created a need for more addresses and IPv6 fills that need. The last block of free IPv4 addresses was reportedly assigned last month.
