Algiers Charter School Association Adds DimensionU Educational Video Games to Curriculum Offering

NEW YORK --(Business Wire)--

It's "game on" for the Algiers Charter Schools Association (ACSA) which has enthusiastically added the award-winning DimensionU Learning System to the mathematics and literacy curriculum for its nine New Orleans-based public charter schools. With a combined student population of more than 5,000 students, ACSA hopes to infuse classrooms with immersive digital games as a tool for raising achievement and preparing students for the technological challenges ahead of them.

"We believe game-based learning is the future of classroom instruction," said Dr. Andrea Thomas-Reynolds, chief executive officer of Algiers Charter Schools Association. "Video game technology is no longer just a novelty. It has successfully crossed into the educational domain. The teachers have noted that when the students are playing the DimensionU Games they see a real convergence of physical, virtual, and imaginary realities that will help our students thrive as they enter the 21st century workplace in the years to come. We are also introducing an Academic Bowl so that students in our five elementary and middle schools can use the games to compete with each other. We are extremely excited and loo forward to the leaps and bounds our students persist to make with the implementation of the DimensionU Learning System."

Developed by Tabula Digita, the DimensionU Games embed over 400 math and literacy skills in a multitude of 3-D, interactive formats. Available on both Windows and Macintosh platforms, the games assist students in learning and mastering multi-faceted mathematical and literacy concepts within three-dimensional, lesson-based environments.

The DimensionU Games for math include four distinct missions for students in grades three through 12 and have proven effective in introducing math concepts, differentiating instruction, engaging students in their own learning, increasing time on task, enhancing student motivation, and improving academic achievement. All the math games align to standards set by the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM), and all mathematics and literacy content is aligned to the Common Core State Standards as well as standards for all 50 states and the District of Columbia.

"The concept of gaming in education derives from the fact that children learn best through play," said Ntiedo Etuk, chief executive officer and co-founder of Tabula Digita. "Now with our new social network component that is available in our games, students and teachers find the fun and connectivity infectious, and they really are surprised at how much content they are mastering in such a short period of time."
