Packet Ship to introduce new software components for video-on-demand and catch-up TV

(Telecomworldwire Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Packet Ship, a provider of software technologies for video-based services and solutions, said yesterday that it will be launching its latest platform of software components at the IP&TV World Forum later this month.

The London exhibition will be used to unveil the company's new video server platform, catch-up TV recorder, asset management and content distribution infrastructure.

The new Antigua release of the Packet Ship Streamline video server is intended to offer higher performance on commodity hardware and now supports Over the Top (OTT) streaming protocols for the public Internet, such as RTSP/TCP and Apple's HTTP Live Streaming for iPhones and iPads, as well as the traditional RTSP/UDP streaming used in managed networks.

Also being unveiled by the company is a new product called the Timeline IPTV recorder, providing continuous recording of broadcast IPTV channels and associated EPG data and allowing new services such as catch-up TV, retrospective EPG and pause/rewind of live TV, fully integrated with the Streamline video server.
