D-reizen Selects Corticon as Business Rules Engine Standard

REDWOOD CITY, CA, Mar 08, 2011 (MARKETWIRE via COMTEX) -- Corticon today announced that D-reizen (www.d-reizen.nl), the Netherlands's leading online travel agency, has selected Corticon to provide their enterprise standard business rules engine. Corticon's leading Business Rules Management System (BRMS) will be used by D-reizen to improve the quality and efficiency of its online booking and payment system.

D-reizen is the Netherlands's largest holiday travel agency, with over 180 locations as well as a full-service call center and website.

The agency aims to provide the best possible support during the planning, booking, and fulfillment of its customers' holiday travel.

A redesign of the company's booking system revealed that a business rules platform could help to achieve a higher level of customer service.

D-reizen identified the need for a business rules management system (BRMS) during the design of its internal payment module.

Specifically, the scope of the module was to determine the most appropriate type of interaction and payment options available to customers during the booking process. The initiative not only called for a flexible application that could quickly adapt to the constantly changing business requirements, but it also had to be designed and maintained by the business.

An extensive BRMS evaluation identified Corticon's model-driven approach as the most efficient platform to capture and deploy the business's intent, and also as the only solution capable of being completely managed by the business. Enabling the business team to own the application narrowed the list of prospective rules engines; Corticon, with its Studio rules authoring metaphor, provides an intuitive, "Excel-like" environment, powerful enough to capture even the most complex logic. D-reizen piloted Corticon and validated that its design allowed for implementation close to the business, which resulted in an increase in agility, an improvement in time-to-market, and a decrease in maintenance costs and total cost of ownership.

During the pilot, Corticon further proved its value during integration with D-reizen's current .Net and Java framework. The new payment module is fully integrated with a .Net portal frontend.

However, D-reizen has integrated Corticon with an outsourced service center using Java web services. D-reizen employs Corticon on a virtualized Linux server environment; however, for development purposes, it also uses Corticon Server for .NET.

"Corticon provides our business teams with the ability to fully control the rules by which D-reizen operates, enabling secure, real-time online transactions that will reduce hard copy payments," said Hans Opdam at D-reizen. "Additionally, tighter integration between customers and their payment services potentially limits fraudulent transactions." D-reizen's new payment system went live in December 2010, with plans to expand Corticon for both internal and external operations.

"Corticon is pleased to partner with D-reizen to provide more efficient operations and responsive customer service," said Dr. Mark Allen, CEO of Corticon.
