Socialtext Strategically Builds Out Leadership Team, Hiring CMO with SaaS and Social Media Experience & Veteran Vice President of Engineering

PALO ALTO, Calif. --(Business Wire)--

Socialtext, a leading enterprise social software provider, today announced the addition of two key executives: Britta Meyer as chief marketing officer, and Shampa Banerjee, as vice president of engineering.

Meyer brings 15-plus years of leadership experience in marketing, holding executive positions at companies that specialize in social technologies and enterprise software as a service (SaaS (News - Alert)). Most recently, Meyer served as president & CEO of Loomia, a leading social recommendations engine. There, she oversaw the delivery of premier social technology and services to industry leaders in e-commerce, online services and mobile communications. Under her leadership, Loomia quadrupled its revenue and secured funding during the height of the recession.

Meyer also held positions as vice president of marketing, customer success, and business operations at Eurekster, a social search engine, and Topica, a SaaS-based e-mail marketing solutions provider. In her new role, she will oversee Socialtext's overall marketing strategy in product, services and customer success. She will report to Socialtext's CEO Eugene Lee.

"I'm excited to join the company that pioneered the social software industry and managed to successfully elevate itself to an industry leader," says Meyer. "As CMO, I'm looking forward to continuing Socialtext's heritage of thought leadership and innovation, while helping it expand into new markets that can benefit from its robust social software solution. Socialtext transforms communications and business processes, and I can't wait to work with the team to reach more companies in that endeavor."

Banerjee, Socialtext's new vice president of engineering, has more than a decade of leadership experience in product design, engineering and social computing. Most recently, she served as vice president of products at TipTopTechnologies, an early stage start-up focusing on social search for the real-time Web. Banerjee served as vice president of engineering and product management at Gullivergo, an online service for students studying abroad. There, she drove the company's infrastructure from the ground up, helping secure early stage funding before the company was acquired by Noodle Education in October 2010.

Before, Banerjee was chief operating officer at Meevee, an internet video start-up company. Under her leadership, Banerjee transformed the product from a personalized TV listings site to a social video portal focused on discovery and sharing. She increased traffic to the product by 100 percent, and helped secure Series C funding. As chief technology officer of Ziff Davis Media, she built the first social network for video games, increased the audience size of the publisher's gaming sites, and won Application Development Trends' distinguished Innovator Award. Prior to that she spent several years in leadership roles at AOL (News - Alert)/Netscape.

In her new role, Banerjee will lead the Socialtext engineering team, driving an agile iteration process that delivers innovative enhancements to Socialtext's social software platform in monthly development cycles. She will also report to Lee.

"Socialtext's innovative development and product teams have done a tremendous job of taking the best of the consumer Web and adapting it to the enterprise," Banerjee says. "I look forward to refining and iterating on the great products they've built, while delivering new social software products that help companies connect people with the colleagues and information they need to serve customers and respond to change."

"Socialtext started with a simple idea that social applications provided better ways to share knowledge and collaborate across companies than traditional enterprise software," Lee says. "Since then, we've watched the Enterprise 2.0 industry mushroom into a multi-billion dollar industry. As we've matured and established our leadership position, it remains critical to our growth trajectory that we secure strategic hires rich in experience, like Britta and Shampa, that continue to expand our leadership team and help to scale our business towards a successful future."
