Middle East Airlines to join SkyTeam next year

Mar 01, 2011 (AIRLINE INDUSTRY INFORMATION via COMTEX) -- Middle East Airlines (MEA), the national airline of Lebanon, has signed an agreement to join SkyTeam in 2012, the airline alliance announced yesterday.

This will be SkyTeam's second member from the Middle East, which it describes as a strategic growth market.

Joining the global alliance will enable MEA to offer access to an extensive global network covering Europe, Asia, Africa and the Americas. Customers of MEA will also benefit from SkyTeam members' loyalty programmes and lounges at airports around the world.

SkyTeam managing director Marie-Joseph Male said that Garuda Indonesia, Aerolineas Argentinas and Saudi Arabian Airlines will also join the alliance in 2012.

"We will continue to work on further expansion of our global network by looking for partners from India and Latin America," he added.
