Europe's Largest Data Center Operator Opens New York Office, Builds US Effort

NEW YORK --(Business Wire)--

Next Generation Data Limited, operator of the largest data center in Europe, is opening an office in New York City to market its services to American companies planning to locate computer operations in the UK.

"When American executives see what we have to offer, they understand the benefits immediately," said Simon Taylor, chairman of NGD. "This is an ideal spot for a company doing business in the UK."

NGD is on a 50-acre campus about two hours drive from London, near the Celtic Manor Club, where the 2010 Ryder Cup was played. It includes a three-storey 750,000 square foot main building with the space and flexibility to house multiple custom-built data halls as well as containerized computing operations. A separate 150,000 square feet building is also available.

The entire site is protected by three layers of barbed wire and other security features, such as double and triple skinned walls; bomb proof glass; prison grade perimeter fencing; anti-ram bollards; infra-red detection; CCTV; and ex-army security guards.

All of NGD's power comes from alternative renewable energy sources, making it the first data center in Europe that runs entirely on green energy. The site also has it own power station with a direct connect to the national grid to ensure redundant energy sources.

The Centre has multiple, redundant fiber optic connections into and out of the site, which is located outside Newport, in southeast Wales. Being a carrier neutral facility, cutomers can select from a variety of high speed low latency carrier network offerings for the network connections appropriate to their needs.

A recent agreement with Surf Telecoms' links NGD to Surf's fault tolerant fiber ring network in the southwest of the UK to deliver highly competitive, reliable and secure regional and nationwide Ethernet, carrier class bandwidth, SDH leased line, optical wavelength and dark fiber services.

The Surf network gives NGD access to direct fiber connections to submarine cables in the South West of England for customers who require transatlantic communications, bypassing backhauling traffic to London for improved resilience, speed and reduced latency.

The New York office will open in the third quarter of this year and will be the base for a sales team serving the east coast. NGD already has a representative marketing the company to potential west coast customers.

BT and Logica (News - Alert), the international IT consulting and services company, are already operating out of the Newport data center under contracts worth $20 million. NGD expects to have 20 percent of its space rented by the end of this year.

Taylor said the NGD's board is discussing the possibility of an initial public stock offering toward the end of this year, or in 2012, either in the UK or the US. The IPO would fund growth that the company expects in the next five years.

About NGD Europe

NGD Europe is able to support High Density Environments for such power-hungry and intensive applications as Cloud Computing, Super Computing, Grid Computing and Containerized Computing; and is ideally suited to large organizations wishing to consolidate their existing space- or power-restricted data center operations.

NGD Europe is a purpose-built Tier 3 facility offering 750,000 square feet of highly secure and cost-effective space housing up to 19,000 racks that can be arranged into self-contained data halls of various sizes all with independent services, resilient power and cooling systems. NGD Europe's environmentally-friendly high level technology infrastructure has been designed to meet and exceed the ever increasing demand for more computing power and among its many features are a high capacity 180 MVA power supply direct from the super grid and a variety of on-site high-speed, low latency carrier interconnects.
