[February 13, 2011] Sony Ericsson unveils 'PlayStation' smartphone Tweet (Japan Economic Newswire Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) NEW YORK, Feb. 13 -- (Kyodo) _ Sony Ericsson Mobile Communications AB unveiled a game console-like smartphone Sunday that enables users to play PlayStation software, in a bid to gain a larger share of the global smartphone market in the wake of Apple Inc. and other competitors. The Xperia Play, equipped with a controller with direction keys and buttons similar to those of Sony Computer Entertainment Inc.'s console, will hit the market in the world next month, the company said. Users can play several games attached to the smartphone immediately after they purchase it and buy around 50 titles, the company said, adding the handset runs Google Inc.'s operating system Android.
