U.S. technology giant Hewlett-Packard to build data center in Sydney

SYDNEY, Feb 02, 2011 (Xinhua via COMTEX) -- Hewlett-Packard, the American technology giant, on Thursday announced to build a multimillion- dollar data center in Sydney's west.

The center, which is expected to be completed by the end of 2011, will create about 200 construction jobs.

Hewlett-Packard's South Pacific Vice-president and Managing director Paul Brandling said the facility would be complimentary to the federal government's high speed national broadband network (NBN).

"Investment in IT infrastructure and the national broadband network are as critical to the economy as traditional investment such as water, power and transport," he said an official launch in Sydney on Thursday.

"All of us want to see a successful future Australia, a successful tier one nation," he said.

"To achieve that it's vital Australia's infrastructure is modernized."
