UNITED STATES : GE acquires Lineage Power to bolster its position in energy efficiency market

(TendersInfo (India) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Lineage Power Holdings has been acquired by US giant GE. With this acquisition, GE is strengthening its position in the energy efficiency market.

The deal is valued at around $520 million. It is expected to close in the first quarter of the year.

With the acquisition, GE Energy can target its products and services at the $20 billion-a-year power conversion market. The power market is being driven by growth in the cloud computing and mobile internet voice, video and data sectors.

According to GE, the addition of Lineage Power s portfolio of products and services, such as high-efficiency data centre architecture, data storage and cloud computing, will expand the company s offerings.

GE Energy Services president and CEO, Dan Heintzelman said, According to recent studies, there will be 1.1 billion smartphones sold globally by 2013. Every new mobile device plugs into an infrastructure that requires an ever increasing amount of high-quality power. A globally networked planet needs a lot of power to keep spinning. Customers want efficient, reliable means to manage that power.

Lineage Power provides high efficiency power conversion technology and services to data centers. Headquartered in Plano, Texas, the company has manufacturing operations in China, Mexico and India.
