TranSwitch's Gigabit Communications Processor Delivers Best-in-Class Applications Performance for Home Gateways

SHELTON, CT, Jan 04, 2011 (MARKETWIRE via COMTEX) -- TranSwitch Corporation (NASDAQ: TXCC) today announced that its Atlanta 2000(TM) processor family achieved a best-in-class performance score compared to competitive solutions. Specifically, the Atlanta 2000 achieved a CaffeineMark score of 7,000, a Java performance level that allows more software applications to run simultaneously on Atlanta 2000(TM)-based home gateways, integrated access devices (IADs) and IP-PBXs, while also satisfying the Home Gateway Initiative (HGI) software modularity test criteria. Atlanta 2000(TM)'s software modularity is based on Open Services Gateway initiative (OSGi) technology which makes it possible for service providers and equipment manufacturers to benefit from reduced development, deployment and maintenance costs for new software applications.

"TranSwitch is an important supplier of integrated circuits to the Home Gateway market and a strong contributor to HGI's work," said Duncan Bees, Chief Technology and Business Officer at HGI. "By participating in the 2010 HGI Test Event, TranSwitch took a major step in evaluating the Atlanta 2000 against the latest requirements of the service providers in areas such as routing performance, software modularity, IPv6 and Quality of Service (QoS). By implementing OSGi on home gateway CPUs, manufacturers such as TranSwitch will enable unique new aftermarket opportunities for service providers with applications that can be dynamically delivered to home gateways in the field." "The realization of a CaffeineMark score of 7,000 and the validation of compliance with the HGI software modularity test suite are the latest in a string of successes associated with TranSwitch's introduction of the Atlanta 2000 family of processors," said William McDonald, Director of CPE Product Marketing at TranSwitch. "Customers take these tests into consideration when selecting next generation products and we are pleased to be able to demonstrate tangible advantages vis-a-vis the competition." Technical background -- CaffeineMark is an industry benchmark used to measure the speed of a Java Virtual Machine (Java interpreter) running on a particular hardware platform.

-- Java Virtual Machine runs on one of the two Tensilica Xtensa LX2 RISC cores that are a key element of the Atlanta 2000's value proposition.

Due to the unique, triple issue capability of these cores, a 7,000 CaffeineMark score has been achieved at a significantly lower clock rate than other processors, enabling a breakthrough performance with a typical power consumption of 1.3 Watts.

-- The OSGi implementation is based on Knopflerfish 3.0, a leading universal open source OSGi Service Platform for many Java based products, led and maintained by Makewave.

Atlanta(TM) 2000 family Product Fact & Highlights: -- Communications processors optimized for Gigabit-rate packet processing applications.

-- Provides best-in-class performance at the lowest power and bill-of-materials costs for a range of applications that require IP packet routing, encryption and media processing at data rates up to two gigabits-per-second.

-- These applications include secure, Triple Play home gateways, IADs and IP-PBXs.

-- Availability of complete reference designs including turn-key home gateway and Asterisk-based software platforms that enable equipment vendors to bring products to market faster and at a lower cost with a higher return on investment.

Newly announced software applications: -- J2ME JVM CDC 1.1 - FP 1.1 -- phoneME JIT compiler -- Knopflerfish 3.0 OSGi framework About TranSwitch Corporation TranSwitch Corporation (NASDAQ: TXCC) is a leading provider of semiconductor solutions in the rapidly growing segments of the consumer electronics and telecommunications markets.
