How the Mobile Web Will Change Mobile Banking

NEW YORK --(Business Wire)--

As smartphone use rises, banks are looking for ways to help people bank on-the-go and build loyalty. But few banks have invested heavily in mobile web technology, opting instead to develop device-specific downloadable mobile apps. According to a new report released today by web researchers Change Sciences Group, this is likely to change.

"The mobile web is beginning to come into its own and will one day become the mobile platform of choice for consumers. There's no hassle of downloading an app. For banks, developing to one platform will reduce costs and complexity," said Steve Ellis, a Change Sciences Partner and one of the athors of the report.

According to the research only a few sites have fully embraced the mobile web, with Bank of America being the most advanced. Most mobile web banking sites currently suffer from usability gaffes, primitive features, and poor look-and-feel. Other banks covered in the research include BB&T, Chase, ING Direct, and PNC (News - Alert).
