Pittsburgh native to lead Ellisville congregation

ELLISVILLE, Dec 04, 2010 (Laurel Leader-Call - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- A new pastor will mount the pulpit of Ellisville Presbyterian Church Sunday.

The Rev. Benjamin P. Glaser of Clarksburg, W.V. was selected to lead the congregation of the church located at 201 E. Ivy Street. Glaser, his wife, Brandy, and their three children -- Lily,4; Mackenzie, 2, and Iain, one month, arrived in Ellisville Friday. The family previously lived in Pittsburgh, Pa., where Glaser served as Ruling Elder at Fairmount Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church.

"I have been involved in several other ministries before that," said Glaser. "This is my first solo pastorate." A graduate of the University of Pittsburgh. Glaser received a Master of Divinity from Pittsburgh Theological Seminary. He also served four years in the United States Marine Corps from 1998-2002. Glaser was ordained Nov. 6, 2010.

Glaser said he accepted the Ellisville pastorate because it gives him an opportunity to serve Christ's church. "There are wonderful and plentiful opportunities to serve the Ellisville community and Jones County, including JCJC and the State School," he said. "I look forward to the people, the food, and living in the South.

"I love meeting new people, preaching and teaching, talking with people about everything and anything, and the ability to serve," added Glaser. "There is also lots of opportunities for my wife and kids in the area." There are two other things that makes serving in the area a great move for Glaser.

"I love to hunt and fish," he said.

And while Glaser will begin preaching and serving at the church on Sunday, no date has been set for his official installation.
