China's three telecom operators have over 10 mln 3G users each by end-Oct, MIIT


BEIJING, Nov 24, 2010 (Xinhua via COMTEX) -- The number of 3G service subscribers to each of China's three telecom operators, China Telecom (CHA.NYSE; 00728.HK), China Mobile (CHL.NYSE; 00941.HK) and China Unicom (CHU.NYSE; 00762.HK; 600050.SH), has exceeded 10 million by the end of October.



According to statistics released on Wednesday by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), China's 3G service subscribers reached 38.64 million by the end of October, up 10.4 percent month on month, and up 295.7 percent year on year.

By end of October, China Mobile's TD subscribers came to 16.98 million, China Unicom's 3G subscribers amounted to 11.66 million, and China Telecom's 3G subscribers reached 10 million.


China Mobile led the TD subscriber market, with a market share of 43.9 percent.

By the end of October, China's mobile communication users totaled 8,420.44 million, and 3G service subscribers accounted for 4.6 percent of the total.

Experts predict that in 2011, 10 percent of mobile communication users will be 3G service subscribers. (Edited by Hou Yujie, [email protected])
