TRENTON, N.J. & WAYNE, Pa. --(Business Wire)--

Biotech 2010, the tenth annual joint symposium of BioNJ and Pennsylvania Bio, held on October 27-28, 2010 in Philadelphia, featured an Innovation Corridor poster session in which 52 poster presenters outlined innovative research taking place at universities and early-stage companies located in Delaware, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania and other states. All of the poster abstracts are available for download in the Innovation Corridor section of www.biotech2010.org.

"Our annual bioscience symposium has expanded in scope and scale to become the most important gathering of bioscience professionals in the Mid-Atlantic region," said Christopher Molineaux, president of Pennsylvania Bio. "One of the key facets of this annual meeting is the Innovation Corridor which fosters connections between academia and industry - a critical component to the continued growth of the biosciences in our region."

As part of the process, eight posters and presenters were selected to participate in a special one-on-one mentoring sessions with experts in scientific research, business development, legal issues, and investments. The eight included:

"The great innovative thought that is coming from our companies, colleges and universities attests to the strength of the bioscience industry in the Mid-Atlantic region," said Debbie Hart, president of BioNJ. "And it is important to note that not only do we see more and more new ideas each year, but with each year, the presentations are becoming more detailed and sophisticated."

The Biotech 2010 Innovation Corridor, sponsored by AstraZeneca, is designed to foster collaborations among academia, early-stage research organizations, and the bioscience industry.

At Biotech 2010, research institutions and early-stage companies presented their research and outlined potential solutions to unmet needs in the bioscience industry, as well as potential commercial markets to a panel of judges that included experts in scientific research, business development, legal issues, and investments. To foster further development of the technologies and mentor the presenters, the judges reviewed the presentations and invited each of the eight participants to take part in a 10-minute, one-on-one mentoring session.

The Biotech 2010 Innovation Corridor was co-chaired by Judith Sheft, associate vice president, technology development at the New Jersey Institute of Technology and Chris Yochim, director, external relations, strategic partnering & business development at AstraZeneca.
