GeoEye to Market Osprey Personal Tracker Solution from EMS Global Tracking to Maritime Market

TEWKESBURY, England --(Business Wire)--

EMS Global Tracking, a division of EMS Technologies (News - Alert), Inc. (NASDAQ: ELMG), announced today that GeoEye, Inc. (NASDAQ: GEOY), a premier provider of superior satellite and aerial-based geospatial information and services, will add the EMS Osprey personal tracker solution as a custom two-way tracking and messaging solution to the suite of solutions under their Marine Services business. EMS will serve as GeoEye's (News - Alert) exclusive partner for its Vessel Monitoring System (VMS) solution to the commercial fishing fleet market. EMS will deliver 1,000 Osprey trackers over the next year, with initial units shipping immediately.

GeoEye will brand EMS's Osprey tracker as part of the VMS and small vessel security solution within its Marine Services business. Each Osprey unit weighs approximately 12 ounces, including batteries, and can be carried or mounted inside a vessel. The Osprey personal tracker also has a dedicated alert button that can be forwarded to the Web-based application, an SMS or e-mail. EMS has optimized the Osprey tracker hardware and ViewPoint software to support key functions, including relaying ship position using high-resolution Web-based maps and catch reports via the IsatM2M satellite network to governments and fleet operators. The Osprey tracker can also support real-time distress alerts, with the added capability to send a message detailing the type of distress. Users have access to 450 pre-defined messages customized for fishing fleet operators.

"Today's announcement highlights GeoEye as a key partner and customer of EMS in the maritime industry, and we are pleased to partner with them to provide rliable, global emergency communications and tracking solutions to the commercial fishing industry," says Dino Koutrouki, EMS Global Tracking general manager. "We believe that GeoEye's investment in the Osprey tracker shows that it is not just a device for personal protection, but it also can be applicable in areas like the maritime market for vessels to help fleet owners understand where their resources are at any point in time."

"GeoEye views EMS Global Tracking as a strategic partner for our tracking infrastructure serving the maritime sector. The addition of the Osprey personal tracker significantly expands our suite of marine applications. We are already seeing strong interest in the solution from commercial fleet operators, particularly in the Far East," adds Bill Wilt, GeoEye's vice president of North America Sales.

GeoEye is already an EMS Global Tracking customer for drifting buoy tracking technology. The buoys, once released by fishing vessels, drift along ocean currents and transmit their locations - together with information about drift direction, speed and water temperature - back to the vessel's skipper using the OrbMap™ software.
