[October 12, 2010] Nokia Siemens Networks to supply technology to Zhenjiang Tweet (Nordic Business Report Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) 12 October 2010 - Finnish-German telecoms equipment maker Nokia Siemens Networks said yesterday that it will support the transformation of the city of Zhenjiang, China into a hi-tech city. The company will provide its machine-to-machine (M2M) platform to foster an innovative Internet of Things (IoT) ecosystem. The bringing of wireless communications in Zhenjiang will support the provision of remote healthcare, intelligent transport and e-energy solutions. The platform's applications include remote medical monitoring services which alert patients if there are changes to their vital signs and locate them in emergencies to provide timely medical assistance, as well as a GPS taxi monitoring application for an intelligent transportation system. The M2M platform advantage is that it runs the network, manages the devices and provides the different services. In addition, the managed connectivity service focuses on subscription and device management or charging and billing. It is able to configure common functionality, monitor connected machines and collect and pre-process data. Nokia Siemens Networks is a 50/50 joint venture between Finnish Nokia Oyj (HEL: NOK1V) and German Siemens AG (FRA: SIE).
