BRIEF: Dothan man dies from injuries in Enterprise construction accident

Sep 24, 2010 (Dothan Eagle - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- A Dothan man has died from the injuries he received in a construction site accident in Enterprise on Thursday.

Ray Anthony Blackmon, 47, of East Washington Street in Dothan, died Thursday night.

Coffee County Coroner Robert Preachers said Blackmon suffered at least 16 broken rib bones when a trench he was working in collapsed, covering him and another worker with dirt.

"It was a construction site, and they're laying a sewer line down behind the junior college," Preachers said. "The ditch they had dug caved in on them." "The body was covered from the shoulders down, and the weight of the dirt is what broke the ribs." The second man is still in the intensive care unit at Enterprise Medical Center.

The project was being handled by L and K Contractors out of Dothan For more on this story, come back later to dothaneagle.com To see more of the Dothan Eagle or to subscribe to the newspaper, go to http://www2.dothaneagle.com/.
