Congressman Murphy Statement on Expanded Cell Service in Essex County

Sep 13, 2010 (Congressional Documents and Publications/ContentWorks via COMTEX) -- Lake Placid, NY, Sep 10 - Today, Congressman Scott Murphy released the following statement after news that Verizon would expand its coverage in Essex County with a new cell service site in North Elba: "Without reliable cell phone service, we will not be able to attract new jobs and businesses to the North Country," said Rep. Murphy. "Yesterday's announcement by Verizon that they will locate a new cell service site in North Elba is encouraging, but more must be done. In this tough economic time, it is absolutely critical for our small businesses and children to have cell phone service in order to be able to compete in the new 21st Century economy. I will continue to work with cell companies to encourage them to locate new cell towers and service sites in unserved and underserved areas." Verizon will locate a new cell service site in the town of North Elba, on Barn Road. This will improve cell phone coverage and capacity for its customers along state Route 86 from Swiss Road to Old Military Road, on Old Military Road from Route 86 to Averyville Road, and on Peninsula Road near Lake Placid.

Congressman Murphy is continuing to travel around the district to work with private industry and the communities of the 20th District to build on his plan to Renew Upstate New York's economy. More information on Murphy's Renew Upstate New York economic development plan is available at http://www.ScottMurphy.house.gov/RenewUpstateNewYork.
