Cisco Systems may acquire SkypeAug 31, 2010 (Datamonitor Financial Deals Tracker via COMTEX) -- According to TechCrunch, Cisco Systems, Inc., a US-based designer and manufacturer of Internet protocol, is reportedly planning an offer to acquire Skype S.A., a Luxembourg-based provider of voice, video and text conversations over the Internet. The valuation seems to be about $5,000 million. Earlier, on August 9, 2010, Skype filed a preliminary prospectus to sell its ADSs in an initial public offering. Cisco Systems has been evaluating certain assets and liabilities related to business combinations. The total purchase consideration related to Cisco Systems' business combinations completed during the nine months ended May 1, 2010, consisted of approximately $6,000 million in cash and $82 million in vested share-based awards assumed. Recently in April 2010, the company acquired Tandberg ASA, a Norway-based provider of visual communication products and services, for total consideration of $3,300 million.
