US Symantec completes Verisign's security unit acquisition


(M&A Navigator Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) US security software provider Symantec Corp (NASDAQ:SYMC) said yesterday it has bought the security business of Verisign (NASDAQ:VRSN) in a deal worth USD1.28bn (EUR973m).

About 700 of Verisign's 2,200 employees were relocated to Symantec as part of the transaction.

The acquired business provides services in the field of secure sockets layer (SSL) certificates, public key infrastructure, as well as VeriSign trust services and the VeriSign identity protection (VIP) authentication service.



The unit has an annual revenue of some USD371m.
