snom technology AG Announces International XML Application Development Contestsnom VoIP phones to serve as the digital playing field as developers vie for “World Champion” status in the snom XML Application World Cup Berlin, Germany and Beverly, Mass. (July 13, 2010) - snom technology AG, a leading developer and manufacturer of advanced voice over IP phones for enterprise and residential markets, today announced the snom XML Application World Cup, where snom users, customers, programmers, fans and aficionados square off to develop the most creative and useful XML application using snom’s feature-rich suite of desktop phones. Submissions will compete in two categories – business and lifestyle – and will be judged by a panel of internationally-known industry experts. Unlike the first contest in 2007, which yielded dozens of inspiring applications in Europe, the new snom XML Application World Cup will be open to application developers from all over the world. The snom XML minibrowser, available on snom 8xx and snom 3xx series phones, includes a web-programmable interface, a feature that allows users to configure a phone to execute almost any web-based task, from streaming web and video cameras to controlling power plugs or playing games. “snom has become more than just a maker of phones, and through the XML web interface, we have seen customers and partners do some amazing things with new and unique applications for both entertainment and business,” said snom founder and CEO Dr. Christian Stredicke. “We wanted to give everyone a chance to use their talents and creativity to develop a killer app for snom phones. It is a very fun process to see what people come up with, and I think we have some great judges that will put every application through its paces.” The snom XML Application World Cup will have two distinct categories: Lifestyle Applications, covering games and other entertainment-focused applications, and Business Applications, which will include applications used in a business and work flow setting. All submissions will be published based on the GNU General Public License. Entries will be judged by a panel of experts in the field: • Matt Marlor, IT manager at the Sydney Harbour Foreshore Authority; Marlor installed a new telephony system at the Sydney Harbour Foreshore Authority using snom phones and a custom-built management system he built himself using information from the snom wiki. • Frank Ochmann, Director and moderator at the IP Phone Forum, Germany • Sandy Gustavsen, IP Telephony Analyst for T3i Group and frequent contributor to TelecomTactics newsletter on TMCnet • Olivier Gerling, CEO of snom France • Hirosh Dabui, Senior Software Developer of snom and creator of the snom XML minibrowser Submissions will be judged on a variety of criteria, including originality, graphical implementation, technical challenge, ease of installation and scalability of application.
