Verizon's FiOS TV offers first major league baseball telecast in 3D in New Jersey

Jul 08, 2010 (M2 EQUITYBITES via COMTEX) -- Provider of broadband and other wireless and wireline communications services Verizon Communications (NYSE:VZ) on Wednesday announced that its Verizon FiOS TV customers throughout New York state and northern New Jersey have an opportunity this weekend to see the first Major League Baseball 3D telecasts.

The company said that YES Network's New York Yankees-Seattle Mariners games on 10 July 2010 at 22:00 hours ET and at 16:00 hours on 11 July 2010 will be made available in 3D to FiOS TV customers in the region who have 3D TV sets, 3D glasses and a high-definition set-top box.

The two YES Network games will be available to FiOS TV customers on channel 575.

Verizon said that it plans to announce additional 3D broadcasts and is currently developing a formal 3D offering that will be available in time for the winter holiday-shopping season, when 3D television sales are expected to spike.

Verizons FiOS TV is delivered through fibre optic cables direct to the customer's residence. It offers a broad collection of programming, with over 565 all-digital channels including up to 140 HD channels and 18,000 monthly video-on-demand titles.
