CollabNet Introduces CollabNet Subversion Edge

(Market Wire Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) BRISBANE, CA -- (MARKET WIRE) -- 06/17/10 -- CollabNet®, the leader in Agile application lifecycle management (Agile ALM) in the Cloud, today introduced CollabNet Subversion Edge, an industry-first distribution that combines Subversion, Apache, and ViewVC with a powerful, Web-based management interface. The graphical user interface greatly simplifies installation, administration, use, and governance of the entire software stack. A built-in update mechanism notifies users when new software components are available and allows users to install the updates directly from the Web-based UI. CollabNet Subversion Edge provides the fastest and easiest way to deploy a new Subversion server and greatly reduces ongoing administration time, saving tens of thousands of dollars per year. The intuitive graphical user interface eliminates administration errors, enables easy and secure management of employee and external partner development teams, and provides critical operational analytics.

CollabNet Subversion Edge is open source software that is licensed under the terms of the GNU Affero General Public License (AGPLv.3), an approved open source license. Free downloads of the beta version are available immediately at www.collab.net/svnedge. General availability is expected later this summer.

"Since we founded the Subversion open source project in 2000, it has become the most popular SCM tool in the world. As part of our mission, CollabNet strives to advance the way in which agile teams develop software, from the workgroup to the enterprise," said Bill Portelli, chief executive officer, CollabNet. "Our leadership position allows us to listen to the market and to work closely with some of the most talented people at organizations around the world. What's clear is that Subversion installation, administration, security, and governance have historically been command-line-driven, requiring special expertise and up-to-the-minute knowledge. Responding to this challenge, we created CollabNet Subversion Edge, with an elegant user interface, automated configuration, and update notifications that will revolutionize Subversion deployment." Ease of InstallationCollabNet Subversion Edge includes a certified bundle of all the software components of a fully functioning, Apache-based Subversion stack, eliminating the need to search the Web for software versions that work together. The graphical, Web-based administration console installs, manages, and updates the entire stack, eliminating guesswork and saving hours of frustration.

Ease of AdministrationThe graphical user interface makes it easy to perform common administrative tasks, such as creating and managing Subversion repositories, starting and stopping the Subversion server, and monitoring server health. Logs are automatically rotated and archived, and an integrated auto-update feature notifies users when compatible updates are available for any of the components of the distribution and enables installation of the updates from the Web browser.

Security and User GovernanceCollabNet Subversion Edge provides intuitive, Web-based, role-based access control to manage all of the software's administration features, as well as to manage internal and external user access to the Subversion repositories, dramatically improving the ability of project teams to govern their Subversion access. The management console includes support for LDAP and SSL, addressing common requests for help on the active CollabNet Subversion forums.

CollabNet and SubversionCollabNet founded the Subversion project in 2000 and continues to be the primary corporate backer and sponsor of the Subversion open source community.
