[June 16, 2010] BRIEF: Illinoisans can check for unclaimed property, money Tweet Jun 16, 2010 (Belleville News-Democrat - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- Members of the the Illinois state treasurer's office will be in Fairview Heights Saturday to return more than $1 million in lost money to residents. State treasurer's chief of staff Robin Kelly and other staff members will be in the center court at St. Clair Square Mall from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday. Staffers will search for residents' names on the state's database, the state's online unclaimed property list. Staffers will initiate claims for residents who present proper verification such as Social Security cards and driver's licenses. The program reunites Illinois residents with their lost or forgotten unclaimed property, which can by anything from bank acounts to entire estates. The treasurer's office is holding $1.4 billion in unclaimed property for 10.2 million residents and businesses. Of that, more than $18 million belongs to St. Clair County residents and more than $17 million belongs to Madison County residents.
