Verizon completes integration of Alltel's network in Portage county, Ohio

(EquityBites Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) US wireless communications provider Verizon Wireless has completed the integration of its network with that of Alltel in Portage county in Ohio, Verizon announced on Thursday.

This integration is expected to provide customers with clearer reception, fewer dropped calls and more coverage, including stronger in-building coverage.

Coverage areas directly affected by the network integration include Kent, Mantua, Shalersville and Windham.

Verizon has been preparing to integrate Alltel's network since completing its purchase of the company last year. Alltel's 3G data network has been upgraded to the latest revision of wireless broadband technology to enable faster delivery of data applications, including email and browsing the Internet, the company said.

Verizon has reportedly invested over USD59bn since it was formed to increase the coverage and capacity of its nationwide network and to add new services, including USD62m in its Ohio network during the first quarter of 2010.

Verizon Wireless is a joint venture of Verizon Communications (Nasdaq: VZ) and Vodafone (LSE:VOD)(Nasdaq: VOD).
