BRIEF: Citigroup to lay off 271 workers in Tucson

May 13, 2010 (The Arizona Daily Star - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- Citigroup will lay off 271 employees at its call center at the University of Arizona Science and Technology Park through the rest of the year, a company spokeswoman said Thursday.

Details about how the layoffs will be phased in through the coming months weren't immediately available, said Janis Tarter, the spokeswoman.

The employees at Citibank's Arizona Resource Center, 9060 S. Rita Road, were notified of the layoffs Wednesday, Tarter said.

"Employees who are interested can consider open positions at Citi and outside of Citi," Tarter said. "And we're working with them to explore those options." The Resource Center employs about 2,300 workers, Tarter said.
