BRIEF: Debit card processor back onlineMay 08, 2010 (The Sun - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- There was a little problem Friday afternoon for AEA Federal Credit Union members when they went to use their debit cards to make a purchase. They wouldn't work. It wasn't just AEA, said Denise Sweet-McGregor, interim CEO of the credit union. The problem was happening nationwide with any financial institution that uses the Fiserv EFT debit card processing system, she said. "It was happening with every client of this server everywhere." Fiserv EFT's technical staff was working as fast as possible to fix the problem. By shortly after 5 p.m. Friday, the server was back up and people were again able to use their debit cards for purchases, Sweet-McGregor said. The malfunction only impacted debit card purchases, she said. "People were still able to make cash withdrawals with their debit cards from ATMs of up to $500 day -- if they had the money in their account, she said.
