Mobistar completes takeover of KPN's Belgian B2B, carrier ops

(M&A Navigator Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Belgian mobile operator Mobistar (EBR:MOBB) said it has completed the acquisition of the Belgian business-to-business (B2B) and carrier activities of Dutch telecom group KPN (AMS:KPN) for EUR65m (USD87.6m) on a cash and debt-free basis.

The completion followed a regulatory approval, under which Mobistar, in addition to its own wholesale services, has to retain the ADSL wholesale offer of the acquired business for a period of 18 months under the same conditions as before the acquisition.

The deal covers KPN Belgium's fibre network, two data centres, business customers and wholesale activities. A staff of 135 also joined the new owner.

The acquired business was renamed to Mobistar Enterprise Services and is expected to be accretive to Mobistar's revenue and EBITDA in 2010.

KPN has decided to stop investing in the Belgian B2B market given the highly unfavourable competitive environment.

The Dutch group will remain active on the Belgian market with mobile and fixed phone services for consumers and small- and-medium-sized enterprises.
