Bluesocket Donates Wireless LAN Technology to a Haitian Hospital to Help Relieve Stressed Communications

(Market Wire Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) BURLINGTON, MA -- (MARKET WIRE) -- 03/12/10 -- Bluesocket, Inc. (www.bluesocket.com), a leader in delivering high performing, secure and scalable wireless solutions to the enterprise, is doing what it can to enhance a local relief effort to Haiti. The mission, named Equipe Huit (Team 8), has been driven by concerned local families and schools, a local philanthropist and contributing companies and has since grown into one of the largest private relief efforts to the region.

On Saturday, March 6th, a jetliner donated by Dow Chemical and fueled by Exxon flew to Haiti with a team of local doctors, nurses and supplies including surgical equipment, clothes, used cell phones, solar cell phone chargers and telecommunications gear. A Bluesocket engineer flew down with the team to set up the company's award-winning technology, which included internal access points and external point-to-multipoint access points. The externally positioned access points are weather resistant to cope with the extreme temperatures of the region.

The Bluesocket technology will allow the doctors to communicate with each other internally over the hospital network and to access the external internet via a satellite dish. The network and internet access will enable the doctors to consult with each other, from across two buildings in the hospital, and to order supplies and discuss cases with their colleagues back in the US. "The communications in Haiti are stressed and we wanted to do what we can to enhance communications there," said Mads Lillelund, CEO of Bluesocket, Inc. "We will continue to contribute our wireless local area technology to areas where we can assist with communication challenges," continued Lillelund.

In addition to volunteering wireless access to this location, Bluesocket has set up Microsoft SharePoint WSS for the doctors to help them to collaborate onsite and with their teams in the US. Bluesocket is encouraging other local companies to do what they can to help bring needed technology to the Haitians. Companies in the area have, already, stopped by to drop off used cell phones at the Bluesocket office, in Burlington. Solio, the leading solar cell phone charger provider, has joined in the efforts and generously offered to match any donation on its website www.solio.com. Brookstone (at its North Shore, MA, location) have offered discounts on their crank solar radios that have built in flashlights and USB ports.

All Massachusetts companies are welcome to join the efforts and to contribute anyway that they can by contacting Bluesocket, Inc, directly to suggest or kick off an initiative. Sign up to participate at http://www.bluesocket.com/haiti_relief.htm.
