Telenor plans to finalise roll-out in India this year(Telecomworldwire Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) 3 March 2010 - Unitech Wireless, the Indian subsidiary of Norwegian telecoms group Telenor ASA (OSL: TEL), aims to cover about a half of the Indian market by the end of 2010, Sigve Brekke, head of Telenor's operations in Asia, was quoted as saying yesterday in an interview for an international media. Unitech Wireless is positioning itself in the mid-end and high-end segment. Telenor does not expect that mobile prices will decrease in India. The company sees no immediate need for 3G in India and will not bid on 3G spectrum. Unitech Wireless will not own telecoms towers but will utilise towers of local players. Neither does Telenor plan to buy companies in India and Pakistan. Telenor is not planning to enter the African market. Unitech Wireless launched its services in India under the Uninor brand in early December 2009. Unitech Wireless is a joint venture of Telenor and Indian real estate company Unitech Ltd (BOM: 507878).
