[February 25, 2010] USAID, IITA to Train Farmers On Safe Use of Herbicides Tweet Feb 25, 2010 (Daily Trust/All Africa Global Media via COMTEX) -- The United States Agency for International Development (USAID)-MARKET survey is collaborating with the International Institute for tropical Agriculture (IITA) to train farmers on safe application of herbicides for weeds control. The two bodies have agreed to ensure a steady supply of inputs to the farmers at a discounted rate backed by trainings on the safe use of their products. IITA, the provider of the platform, will provide technical support in a weed control private-public sector model linking resource poor farmers with control giants such as Syngenta and Dizengoff. Project Manager, IITA-MARKETS Cassava Value Chain Project Dr. Bassey Tarawali said the initiative would provide employment for the teeming youths in the rural communities by boosting incomes and guaranteeing food security.
