Norwegian Opera Software operating profit down to NOK7.4m Q4 2009

Dublin, Feb 22, 2010 (M2 PRESSWIRE via COMTEX) -- 22 February 2010 - Norwegian web browser developer Opera Software ASA (OSL: OPERA) said today its operating profit narrowed to NOK4.7m in the fourth quarter of 2009 from NOK30.9m a year earlier, however outperforming the analyst estimates.

According to a poll by TDN Finans, Opera Software was expected to slip to a loss of NOK5m.

The company's revenue dropped by 9% year-on-year to NOK142.6m in October-December 2009, failing the market consensus for NOK144m.

Opera Software has so far not succeeded in generating big revenue from its mobile browser Opera Mini, but has now made acquisitions targeting to boost advertising revenue.

Opera remains positive about its growth prospects. The company's key operational priorities in 2010 include continuing to grow revenues and users for its Opera branded consumer products and sign up new Tier 1 mobile operators, as well as grow active users of Opera products and services with existing mobile operator customers.
