Comverse to Demonstrate Machine-to-Machine Wireless Communication Using Intel® Technology

WAKEFIELD, Mass. --(Business Wire)-- At Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Comverse (News - Alert) is displaying a new approach for strengthening telecom networks' support of Machine-to-Machine (M2M) applications. Based on Intel processor technology, the wireless data communications between machines - fixed or mobile -- may lead to new revenue opportunities for telecom operators, such as real-time monitoring and tracking services.

The close integration between Comverse's innovative software-based products and services and Intel's (News - Alert) processor technology will help telecom operators run M2M applications on their networks to provide monitoring, broadcasting and control capabilities. Deploying this infrastructure within the operator's network also will open the way for M2M application developers and integrators to efficiently bring new offerings to market.

"The field of M2M is expected to grow significantly with the increasing number of Internet-connected devices," said Daphna Steinmetz, Chief Innovation Officer at Comverse, the world's leading supplier of software and systems enabling value-added messaging and content services, converged billing and active customer management, and IP communications.

"This demonstration using Intel technology shows how operators can empower the M2M application domain and build a significant offering in the M2M arena. As a major innovator of human communication experiences, Comverse is excited to offer new value in the expanding market of M2M applications," Steinmetz said.

In the case of fleet management, Comverse will illustrate the value of reliable real-time data communication between a home base and vehicles, regarding location and alerts to operational problems.

At Mobile World Congress (News - Alert), now through Feb. 18, visitors are invited to see the M2M demonstration at the Comverse booth (Hall 8 #B3). To schedule a meeting with Comverse, visitors are encouraged to make an online request.

The M2M demonstration showcases Intel® Atom™ and Intel® Xeon® processors running applications optimized for a complete end-to-end M2M service environment. The Intel Atom processor is designed to provide leading edge performance capabilities running such devices as the M2M aggregation gateway. M2M gateways control LANs and PANs of sensors and devices that communicate over near- and medium-range wireless communication, such as Bluetooth, Zigbee, ZWave, RF and WiFi (News - Alert). These gateways use cellular communication to connect to the main M2M application, thus having the advantage of being a cellular operator managed device for services revenue gain.

The second element in the M2M solution are Intel® Xeon® processor 5500 series-based servers running quality of service and policy enforcement in the network cloud. This combination provides performance, security, and compatibility of services development for the worldwide embedded ecosystem.
