[February 05, 2010] 4G Network to Commence Trial Use in Ningbo in May Tweet NINGBO, Feb 05, 2010 (SinoCast Daily Business Beat via COMTEX) -- A next-generation broadband wireless mobile communications network will be built in Ningbo, Zhejiang, east China. With a total investment of CNY 600 million or so, the network is one the nation's key technology projects. It will be set up and put into service in May 2010. It is expected to become the world's first 4G network focusing on the TD-LTE technology. The 4G network will be first used for e-government, disclosed a government official. The TD-LTE technology is a mobile communications standard under the LTE TDD mode. China started its research on 4G project as early as 2001, made breakthroughs in key technologies before 2003, and then launched system integration demonstration. By far, the country's 4G technology R&D has entered into the phase of external field tests. At the ITU Telecom World 2009 held in Geneva, Switzerland, the top management of China Mobile Ltd.
