Entropic Communications' VP Technology to Present "Net Neutrality in the Home -- Don't Forget About the Home Network" at OTT CON

(GlobeNewswire Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) ADVISORY, Feb. 1, 2010 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- What: Over the Top (OTT) discussions generally deal with issues such as content aggregation, devices in the home, digital rights management, advertising, net neutrality, available bandwidth on the access network, and more. However, even if all these problems are solved and the ideal solution is created, it will never see broad-based adoption if there is insufficient bandwidth or a lack of robustness on the in-home network to support OTT services.

Dr. Anton Monk, vice president technology for Entropic, will address these issues and the fact that the home network may be the single most critical piece of the OTT puzzle if it is to move beyond the PC and the hobbyist and on to mass-market success.

By now it is well known that the U.S. service providers currently have, or will soon have, multi-room DVR solutions based on high-speed home networking solutions. Perhaps less well known is that the standard being adopted by the vast majority of these service providers is a coaxial cable-based solution known as MoCA (Multimedia over Coax Alliance), which is essentially Ethernet over coax. Within a couple of years, MoCA home networks capable of carrying more than 150Mbps will blanket the U.S. service provider landscape.

What this means is that a key ingredient for OTT success -- high speed access to the television viewing location -- will be in place. OTT services will be able to share this network with other services giving rise, naturally, to questions about net neutrality not just outside the home, but also inside the home. This talk will discuss home networking in general with a focus on converged OTT and incumbent services. In particular, options are proposed for dealing with potential net neutrality concerns in the home.

Where/ OTT Con (February 2-3, 2010) - Holiday Inn San Jose When: Donner Pass Ballroom Wednesday, February 3, 3:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.
