Calix E7 Ethernet Service Access Platform Achieves RUS AcceptancePETALUMA, Calif. --(Business Wire)-- Calix (News - Alert), a leading provider in North America of broadband communications access systems and software for copper- and fiber-based network architectures that enable communications service providers (CSPs) to connect to their residential and business subscribers, today announced it has received Rural Development (RD) Telecommunications acceptance from the Rural Utilities Service (RUS) division of the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) for the recently-announced E7 Ethernet Service Access Platform (ESAP). The RUS listing enables CSPs to access RUS loans funded to promote the deployment of broadband services throughout the United States, with a special emphasis on rural development. The E7, which is now generally available, is a highly extensible, standards-based Ethernet service access platform that offers CSPs a modular chassis-based option to address the emerging bandwidth challenges of an increasingly all-video world. Leveraging Calix' Ethernet eXtensible Architecture (EXA), an Ethernet kernel based on industry standard protocols and focused on the requirements of the access network, the EXA Powered E7 is now a core part of the Calix Unified Access Infrastructure, and provides a wide range of GPON, point-to-point Gigabit Ethernet, Active Ethernet and 10 Gigabit Ethernet services and deployment options for CSP (News - Alert) networks. This addition will be reflected in the next update of the List of Acceptable Materials. With the E7 achieving formal acceptance from the RUS, the entire Calix Unified Access portfolio across the C- and E-Series access platforms and the P-Series optical network terminals is now RUS accepted. Calix has been actively participating in RUS listing activities since 2003 when Calix announced that the C7 Multiservice Access Platform (MSAP) had received acceptance from the RUS.
