TCI supermodel taking the fashion world by storm

Jan 08, 2010 (Turks and Caicos Net News - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- Since winning the TCI Supermodel Contest at the first annual TCI Supermodel Contest & Fashion Extravaganza on May 1st 2009, Davia Chambers has been setting the fashion world on fire.

In that time, the 5'10" Caribbean beauty has been quite busy within the last six months appearing in some of the most sought after fashion shows, publications and events not only in New York City, but the Caribbean too.

"Participating in, and then winning the TCI Supermodel Contest has given me the tools and boost that I needed get my modeling career started; without it, I would not have had so many doors opened to me. So far everything is going well, and this year promises to be even better," said Davia.

After her win, the TCI Supermodel 2009 winner has appeared on the cover and in the Summer 2009 Times of the Islands magazine, a Digicel TCI ad Campaign, featured in Destination Turks & Caicos Islands 2010, Discover Turks & Caicos 2010, Nu Woman Magazine -along with a number of print and broadcast media outlets. What is more, following her signing with Ikon Model Management last summer, Davia then moved to New York City to pursue modeling fulltime.

The former PTV Channel 8 news anchor is presently on holiday in Trinidad and Tobago, where she is preparing to do a photoshoot with top Trinidadian fashion photographer Oswin Browne. "When I finish this shoot in the next week or so, I'll be heading back to New York for the fall-winter fashion week of shows which is coming up in February," noted Davia.

She then added that while there: "I also had the privilege of attending Claudia Pegus' Christmas Collection Show where I met fashion model and designer Pat Tracy out of New York." Pat Tracy is a famous Trinidadian model turned fashion designer, and will be featuring Davia in her upcoming collection.

"Everything that Davia Chambers has achieved thus far is proof positive that there is indeed great talent here in the Turks and Caicos Islands waiting to be discovered and groomed," said Courtney Robinson, the event's Executive Producer. "I am very proud of and happy for Davia. She is doing a remarkable job on the international scene and representing TCI to the fullest." "Her success is a testament that should you dedicate yourself to a profession and truly believe in yourself wholeheartedly, everything is possible. I expect to hear more great news in the coming weeks, months and years; and hope that this year TCI can produce more break-through stars that can take the fashion world by storm."
