Rove visit at U of C reschedules senatorial debates at Union CollegeJan 06, 2010 (The Times-Tribune - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- Debates among Republican and Democratic senatorial candidates planned for Union College are to be rescheduled after a visit by former presidential advisor Karl Rove to Williamsburg's University of the Cumberlands was set. Darren West, past president of the Knox County Chamber of Commerce and Knox County treasurer, reported Tuesday that because of the Rove visit, the Republican debate scheduled for the same weekend at Barbourville's Union College will be reset. A debate between Democratic candidates will be scheduled later, he said. The filing deadline for candidates is January 26. Republicans who have filed include Bill Johnson, of Elkton, Gurley L. Martin, of Owensboro and Rand Paul, of Bowling Green. Trey Grayson, current Kentucky Secretary of State, has announced as a GOP candidate but has yet to file with the Secretary of State's office. Two Democratic candidates have filed, James Buckmaster, of Henderson, and Darlene E. Price, of Whitley City. Lt. Gov. Daniel Mongiardo and Kentucky Attorney General Jack Conway have also announced as Democrat candidates, and have also yet to file with the Secretary of State's office. Other political events announced for Laurel County include a Trey Grayson House Party and Online Forum scheduled for 7 p.m., Jan. 14, in London. Republican Grayson will be available by an online hookup that evening.
