BRIEF: Insight cable rates going up

Dec 30, 2009 (The Lexington Herald-Leader - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- While cable customers in Lexington are unaffected by the dispute between Time Warner Cable and Fox, they will see rates rise in the new year from provider Insight Communications.

Insight has announced it will raise prices on various packages between $3 and $6. Customers of one product -- classic or digital cable, telephone or broadband -- will see a $3 increase. Customers of two products will pay $5 more, and customers of all three will pay $6 more monthly, said spokesman Jason Keller.

Customers of just basic cable will not see an increase, he said.

Keller attributed the price increases to Insight's capital investment, as well as increased programming costs from cable networks. He said he couldn't specifically say if costs from the Fox stations at issue with Time Warner Cable were among those costs that increased for Insight.

"The cable companies are facing higher programming costs," he said. "Insight is certainly not immune to that." To see more of the Lexington Herald-Leader, or to subscribe to the newspaper, go to http://www.kentucky.com. Copyright (c) 2009, The Lexington Herald-Leader, Ky.
