BRIEF: BlackBerry users report outages

Dec 23, 2009 (The Orlando Sentinel - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- Research in Motion was working late Tuesday to fix its BlackBerry messaging systems after widespread service outages were reported in North and South America.

The company confirmed that some "delays" are occurring, and could offer no timeline for a resumption of full service, theglobeandmail.com reported.

"Some BlackBerry customers in the Americas are experiencing delays in message delivery. Technical teams are actively working to resolve the issue for those impacted," spokesperson Jamie Ernst said. "RIM apologizes for any inconvenience experienced by customers." It appears that Internet browsing and BlackBerry messenger service was also affected, although telephone service was not interrupted. Would-be users tweeted their frustration on social-networking site Twitter.

A similar outage delayed e-mail services in North America on Dec. 17. RIM said that issue had been resolved.
