Individual Users Unqualified for Domain Name Registration

BEIJING, Dec 14, 2009 (SinoCast Daily Business Beat via COMTEX) -- Individual users are not qualified for domain name registration from December 14, 2009, according to the latest announcement by the China Internet Network Information Center (CNNIC), the domain name regulator in the country, on December 11.

Domain name applicants are required to file domain name registration service institutions with paper material, including original application form with business seal, company business license (photocopy), as well as contact person ID (photocopy), when they submit online application.

The move aims to further enhance the authenticity, accuracy, and integrality of the domain name registration information.

The CNNIC started to houseclean domain name application and registration after being criticized by CCTV. It recently punished three domain name registration service and agency institutions, said sources.

The CNNIC was established on June 3, 1997 as a non-profit organization. Its main tasks include domain name registry service, catalogue database service, Internet survey & relevant information service, and so on.
