Centrify Delivers New Release of Centrify-Enabled Samba to Enable Active Directory Integration for UNIX and Linux Systems

SUNNYVALE, Calif., Dec 10, 2009 /PRNewswire via COMTEX/ -- Centrify Corporation, the leading provider of Microsoft Active Directory-based identity and access management and auditing solutions for non-Microsoft platforms, today announced support for the latest Samba release 3.3.9. Centrify provides, free of charge, a packaged and tested version of Samba that works seamlessly on systems that have been joined to Active Directory using Centrify DirectControl. Existing customers and those evaluating DirectControl can download it from the Centrify Download Center. Additionally, in order to improve integration with Active Directory and help organizations quickly adopt the latest versions of ever-changing Samba releases, Centrify has introduced a Winbind Proxy which provides authentication and access control through Centrify DirectControl and Active Directory.

By combining Centrify-enabled Samba and DirectControl, administrators will be able to centrally control user identities, authentication and access to the UNIX file system for both interactive access as well as remote file system access. Key features and capabilities include: -- Mapping of Active Directory user identities to consistent UNIX identities to ensure proper access controls across all server access interfaces. The scalable architecture allows Samba and DirectControl to use a common computer object and share an Active Directory domain membership trust managed by DirectControl.

-- An easy-to-use configuration script to ensure consistent and reliable integration between Centrify-enabled Samba and DirectControl.

-- A number of Centrify-supplied installation utilities and enhancements combined with pre-packaged Samba binaries on a wide range of platforms enable administrators to get Samba up and running in minutes.

The Centrify Suite is an integrated family of Active Directory-based auditing, access control and identity management solutions that secure cross-platform environments. Centrify DirectControl(R) addresses the need to secure both physical and virtual environments by effectively turning a non-Microsoft system or hypervisor into an Active Directory client, enabling administrators to secure that system using the same authentication and Group Policy services currently deployed for their Windows systems, as well as adding granular access control through its patent-pending Zone technology. Centrify DirectAuthorize(TM) centrally manages and enforces role-based entitlements for fine-grained control of user access and privileges on UNIX and Linux systems as well as a wide range of hypervisors. Centrify DirectAudit(TM) delivers auditing, logging and real-time monitoring of user activity on non-Microsoft systems. Built on a common architecture, the integrated Centrify Suite of solutions helps to improve IT efficiency, strengthen regulatory compliance initiatives, and centrally secure a heterogeneous computing environment.

Price and Availability Centrify Samba is available now and is free to download at http://www.centrify.com/request.asp?o=13 . Centrify-enabled Samba requires the use of Centrify DirectControl version 4.1.2 or newer.
