[December 07, 2009] Now, a shaadi site for eunuchs Tweet NEW DELHI, Dec 06, 2009 (Hindustan Times - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- After matrimonial websites for specific castes, communities, astrological groups and even HIV positive people, now transsexual women and eunuchs get their own portal too. Launched a couple of months ago, Chennai-based website Thirungangai.net is a matrimonial website that helps such women find the right man. "Transsexual women by birth may not be physically women, but by soul and heart we are real women," says the homepage of the website. Available in Tamil and English, the website has been created by an NGO called the Sahodari Foundation that works towards the upliftment of transsexuals. Director Kalki Subramniam says on the site, "We have received more than 400 emails from all over the world in response to the launch. We have also received more than 200 proposals." She adds that though a lot of the proposals thus far have been one or two liners, almost 50 of them were genuine. "Men who have proposed are not only from India but also from countries like the USA, UK, Switzerland, Netherlands, France and the middle east. There are proposals from businessmen, IT professionals, students, lawyers, doctors and even one scientist." She says that they are currently screening the proposals and the first transsexual/ eunuch wedding will be held on Valentine's Day, February 14, next year. Deepika, one of the eunuchs who has pasted a profile online says, "I want a man who will respect us for who we are. He should not hesitate to take me around in public and introduce me as his wife. He should be slightly educated at least and must have an income of his own. Should he find any girl prettier than me, he can make her his sister." Sacch Ka Saamna participant, eunuch Lakshmi Narayan Tripathi, an avid campaigner for gay rights, says, "I think it is just fabulous that good and right things are happening to our community. Now more such matri-monial websites should come up and if things happen right then marriage is the next step to make everything perfect."
