Sprint Plans To Provide Connectivity For Hearst's Skiff E-Reader (S)

Dec 06, 2009 (SmarTrend(R) News Watch via COMTEX) -- 12/6/2009 - Sprint Nextel (NYSE:S) said it will provided connectivity for a range of ereaders next year as part of a new digital publishing service from Hearst, according to a FierceWireless report, which cited a WSJ article. The Skiff service will transmit content from newspapers, magazines, and other sources to devices.

Hearst is positioning the service as an alternative to Amazon.com's (NASDAQ:AMZN) Kindle store and claims that its content will be superior.

Sprint plans to sell Skiff readers in its retail stores and online. Additional distribution channels will be announced next year.
