Rochen and PICnet Support the New Joomla! Sponsorship Programs

(PR Web Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Chris Adams, CEO of Rochen Ltd, and Ryan Ozimek, CEO of PICnet Inc, today announced their companies' support of the new Joomla! Sponsorship Program at the Joomla Developer Conference, with an initial $10,000 contribution.

New York, NY (PRWEB) December 5, 2009 -- The leaders of Rochen, a provider of performance web hosting solutions with a heavy focus on the Joomla! content management system (CMS), and PICnet, a company serving the non-profit and socially responsible business sector through their Soapbox software as a service platform based on Joomla, jointly announced an initial $10,000 contribution to the new Joomla Sponsorship Programs.

Rochen has officially become a Joomla Platinum Development Sponsor, investing directly into the improvement of the Joomla code base. Development sponsorships like Rochen's will augment the development of code contributed to the Joomla project by teams of volunteers. While the majority of code contributed to Joomla will continue to be written by volunteers, the new Joomla Development Sponsorship Program enables the project to hire developers to write code when they would otherwise have commitments to day jobs. The result is increased speed of the development cycle, benefiting the larger Joomla community. All code contributed by developers supported under this program will remain open source licensed under the GNU GPL.

One developer working under the new program, Andrew Eddie, commented: "For me, the greatest thing is that it buys me time to spend with people. It enables me to expand my ability to deal with issues important to the greater Joomla developer community, not just the things that interest me in particular." Chris Adams, CEO of Rochen, commented: "Rochen has many customers, including web designers and developers reselling our services, who depend on Joomla and its ongoing development. We feel giving our support to the launch of the new development sponsorship program is the right thing to do for our customers as well as the wider Joomla community. I would encourage other organizations that use Joomla to get involved with the new development sponsorship program too, even if only contributing a small amount – every little bit helps." PICnet has helped kick off the Joomla Community Sponsors Program, a program that allows individuals and companies to financially support the project in its efforts to grow to the Joomla ecosystem. With more than 4 years helping non-profits and socially responsible businesses leverage the Joomla CMS to meet their communications and fundraising goals, PICnet recognizes this investment in the Joomla project as an important way the business can give back to the project while also contributing to its future success.

Ryan Ozimek, CEO of PICnet, commented: "Businesses like PICnet have been able to reduce the total cost of ownership for content management systems by utilizing Joomla for its clients. Becoming a Joomla Platinum Community Sponsor is a natural extension of our commitment to the Joomla community, and we look forward to seeing ways in which the project can continue to grow with these resources. We encourage other businesses in our community to look at their research and development budgets, and make a similar determination that we have: investing in open source code reduces total costs and increases client satisfaction."
