Authorities investigating Amherst County home robberies


Nov 23, 2009 (The News and Advance - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- Twice in the last week, Amherst County residents have been robbed in their homes at gunpoint, authorities said.

A house on Brook's Street was robbed Thursday, the Amherst County Sheriff's Office said.

Two men entered the house and both had handguns. The victim was hit several times before the men took a purse and left, authorities said.

Both suspects are described as white, about 5-feet-6-inches tall and weighing between 140 and 160 pounds.

One wore dark pants, a dark sweatshirt and carried a gun. The second wore dark pants, a red sweatshirt, and carried a silver handgun.

In the second armed robbery, two residents on Seminole Drive told deputies that around 12:40 a.m. today, three men broke into their apartment and stole cash.

The first suspect is described as black, 20 to 25 years old, about 5-feet-2-inches tall and weighing around 145 pounds.

He had curly black hair, a light complexion and was wearing khaki pants and a gray hooded sweatshirt with a symbol on the left side, authorities said.

The second is described as a black man, about 30 years old, 5-feet-6-inches tall and weighing about 150 pounds, authorities said.


He had a dark complexion and wore a black hooded sweatshirt, black pants, a dark brown stocking cap and had a scar on his left cheek. He carried a single barrel sawed-off shotgun, authorities said.

The third is described as a black man, about 20 years old, 5-feet-4-inches tall tall and weighing about 170 pounds. He had a medium complexion and was wearing a brown leather jacket and a brown stocking cap, authorities said.
