Huawei to Set up Innovation Center in Germany

SHENZHEN, Nov 23, 2009 (SinoCast Daily Business Beat via COMTEX) -- Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd. lately signed a letter of intent with Jurgen Ruttgers, governor of North Rhine-Westphalia State, Germany, about its establishment of an innovation center in the state's capital city of Dusseldorf, citing a report.

The Chinese telecoms equipment provider is set to start the project in 2010 with an investment of about USD 29.8 million and recruit 200 local engineers for the center, which is also expected to cooperate with local universities in R&D.

In fact, the Huawei key customer Vodafone D2 GmbH is headquartered in Dusseldorf, where the Chinese company's European headquarters have been located since 2007, with about 400 employees.

Huawei started an LTE experiment on the 790-862MHz frequency band in cooperation with Vodafone D2 in August 2009 and joined hands with Vodafone Group PLC (LSE: VOD) to establish a core network R&D laboratory in Milan, Italy not long ago.

In addition, a HSPA plus network constructed by Huawei made sail in Munich in early November under the operation of Telefonica O2 Germany GmbH & Co., OHG.
